Turning Ideas into Reality
Century cover
Targeted gifts from NAE members and friends have enabled the NAE to undertake projects such as the Public Understanding of Engineering and  Engineering in K-12 Education; the book A Century of Innovation and the Frontiers of Engineering Education Symposium.  Additionally your generosity towards specific projects allowed us to provide leadership and build momentum for broader National Academies studies such as Rising Above the Gathering Storm and America’s Energy Future

The NAE Independent Fund is our one truly discretionary resource. It supplies the seed money to explore and launch new initiatives and provides for continuity of our operations. Critically necessary, the NAE Independent Fund is highly leveraged as externally funded studies and projects are developed.  For instance, the Independent Fund supported the pre-project planning for our exceedingly successful Grand Challenges for Engineering project.  Our Independent Fund sustained the early planning and provided supplementary funding for another project, Engineer of 2020, one of the most successful and widely disseminated project ever conducted by the NAE to date.  Without the Independent Fund, the creation of the NAE Center for Advancement of Scholarship on Engineering Education (CASEE), which establishes excellence in engineering education, would not have been possible.

We invite you to make an annual unrestricted gift to the NAE Independent Fund today through our secure online giving form or by mail. Additionally, we encourage you to check out additional ways of giving to the NAE. For example, did you know that your gift may entitle you to membership in one of our philanthropic societies, which recognize our donors' significant contributions to the NAE? Or that many corporations match charitable giving, doubling the effect of your NAE support? Find out if your corporation matches your gift today.
